Carpet, fitted the way it should be
A carpet is judged on things you only notice when they are wrong: a ripple in front of the wardrobe two winters later, a seam you can see from the doorway, a stair nosing that has gone soft, a doorway strip that catches your foot.
None of those are the carpet's fault. They are fitting. Properly power-stretched, cut in tight to the skirting, seamed where the light will not catch it and finished cleanly at every threshold — that is what makes a mid-range carpet look and last better than an expensive one fitted carelessly.
Where carpet still wins
Hard flooring has taken over kitchens, hallways and living rooms, and rightly so. But upstairs, carpet is still the right answer for most homes: it is warmer, quieter through a ceiling, softer for children, and considerably safer on a staircase.
We fit:
- Bedrooms — from soft twist pile to hard-wearing loop.
- Stairs and landings — the hardest-working carpet in the house and the one that most rewards a good fit.
- Living rooms and snugs — where warmth underfoot matters more than a wipe-clean surface.
Underlay is not an upsell
It is tempting to save money on the layer nobody sees. It is also the fastest way to shorten the life of a carpet you did pay for. Underlay carries the wear, provides the insulation and does most of the sound deadening; a good carpet on poor underlay flattens years early.
We will recommend the right weight and type for the room — a landing and a spare bedroom genuinely do not need the same thing — and explain the difference rather than just quoting a number.
What we do on the day
We lift and take away your old carpet and underlay, check and prepare the floor beneath, deal with any loose or squeaking boards we find, fit new gripper where it is needed, and then fit and stretch the carpet. Doors are trimmed where the new floor height needs it. We clean up before we leave.
Most bedrooms are a straightforward half-day to a day. Stairs take longer than people expect, particularly with winders or a turn.
